Our industrial solvent Based & Solvent free glues are one of the most commonly used families of adhesive used in Ireland today. Within this family of adhesives, we generally specify a particular adhesive based on the nature and size of the substrates being bonded, preferred application method, required process time and finally the function & purpose of the items being manufactured. These adhesives are typically used in general manufacturing and in the construction & woodworking sector, generally for attaching large flat surfaces together. Typically, the adhesive is applied to either one or both sides of the materials being bonded. When the adhesive layer is tack free, the materials are joined. They are typically applied using spray (spray glue), roller, toothed spatula or brush.
We are happy to be the partners of Alpha Adhesives & Sealants Ltd, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of industrial adhesives. Alpha Adhesives & Sealants Limited was established in the 1980’s and are a premium manufacturer of industrial adhesives with a wide customer base to include Automotive, Marine, Construction, Aerospace, Civil Engineering & Military. Alpha Adhesives are recognised as leaders in Rubber Bonding Adhesives.
We typically offer adhesives based on five different chemistries since these fulfil most of the applications seen.
Solvent based contact adhesives based natural or synthetic rubber (polychloroprene or nitrile). Contact adhesives are used in strong bonds with high shear-resistance like laminates, such as bonding Formica® to a wooden counter, and in footwear as in attaching outsoles to uppers. Typically, synthetic rubber contact adhesives are used in construction type applications where high heat and shear resistance is required. PVC cement is applied on one surface of the parts being bonded therefore these are not contact adhesives. We also offer two component solvent based polyurethane adhesives which are used in the most demanding bonding applications for both flexible and rigid substrates.
Solvent free adhesives are based on isocyanate chemistry. These adhesives offer exceptional structural strength and weathering characteristics. They are typically used in applications where extreme strength and longevity is required.
The Glue Guru has written a series of papers on the application and use of solvent based & solvent free adhesives. These are available on his Blog

Always work in a ventilated area when using solvent based adhesives. Some solvents are flammable, the vapours will travel along the ground. Never carry out hot-work (such as brazing, welding etc.) in the same building where the adhesive is being used.
Always follow the guidance given in the attached material safety data sheet for the product. Contact the Glue Guru for specific advice on workplace practice, ventilation etc.
